The garden was initially constructed in the fourth year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1509 AD) by Wang Xianchen, a Jinshi degree holder of Hongzhi period and a former censor, who retired from office and built the garden on the site of a poet's residence and an old temple of the Yuan Dynasty. The whole garden is divided into three parts: east, middle and west, with the residential part serving as a garden museum hall. The eastern part features distant hills, pine forests, lawns, bamboo groves and winding waters; the central part centers on water, with ponds covering one third of the area; and the western part has pavilions and terraces, with a main building and other scenic spots such as the Reflection Pavilion。
